BellyBuds were developed by a father-to-be seeking a better way for his wife
to play music to her belly. “We read about all the benefits of having our
baby hear music while in the womb, but it wasn’t very convenient for my wife
to lie on her back holding her earbuds to her belly,” states Curtis Mark
Williams, co-founder of BellyBuds. “I looked online, thinking there would
probably be a product that offered a solution, but I didn’t find anything, so I
decided to pursue it myself and BellyBuds were born!”
BellyBuds consist of dual, two-inch modular “belly-phones” that plug into any
standard mp3, digital music player or sound device and can be placed
anywhere on the abdomen. The circular disks gently adhere to the varying
curvature of a growing belly with a medical-grade, reusable and skin-safe
hydrogel. Adapted from underwater audio technology, BellyBuds have a
fixed, maximum sound level strong enough to penetrate to the womb while
not competing with the sound of the mother’s heartbeat. And when she is
done sharing music with her baby, the BellyBuds are easily stored on the
included “dock” and placed in a neoprene pouch for portability and safe-
keeping.
The non-obtrusive design of BellyBuds allows it to be worn discreetly under
clothing or, for those moms that love to flaunt their growing belly, designer
pop-on covers called Buddons™ are available in a variety of different colors
and styles to add a fashion statement.
